Dude you did awesome,

Particularly impressed that you got past the two sessions of mental commentary "Shit this isn't a dry-run!". If you hadn't said afterwards, I wouldn't have thought the pauses as anything other than intentional.

Totally worth attending, and our little team won the challenge! Yay for Team Aaaargh!

I must come across as technophobic by comparison: by text messaging no-one expects a reply this side of the day (messaging is usually cleared face-to-face - "Didn't you get my text?"); Email, unless it's my work email, this is rarely checked (maybe bi-monthly); FaceBook is usually slightly better fare (usually monthly).
Invariably if you want to get hold of me, calling usually works (unless my battery is flat, which is why i have a landline).

I've found something useful on my phone: permanently turning off vibrate in silent mode - if its in silent mode, I don't hear it, and it it doesn't light up to tell me that I've got a message. For all intents and purposes, its off.

Man, I know what you mean. The other day I got a call 3000 metres up a goddamned mountain. I brought it for the GPS, never thinking someone would actually be able to call me on it. And no, I didn't answer it.

Lol. Why do you think Mark and I go tramping so often? Its a great chance to switch off :)
Our club lodge has 3G signal, so you could facebook / IM / text etc if you want to - but we will most often leave our cellphones in our rooms for most of the day and check them at some stage.
Switching off is awesome. And should be done more often.
Speaking of plans... If you arent doing anything this weekend, let me know. Mark is on call, so I would love to do drinks on Friday or something, since we'll be doing nothing all weekend... :P

I was reading something the other day that makes a good point, along the lines of:
All economies that rely mainly on agriculture and tourism are naturally low-wage.

So why should we expect to be any different??

But then, I'm with you. We're staying here in the hopes that by being productive members of our society, we will see it improve. (That and Australias full of bugs and getting me a british work visa when married to a british citizen is far harder than if I wasnt.)

We have all our music on the server at our house too (thanks to living with you - there was abit of me complaining to the boy that I want it to be just like when I lived with Edward that meant this was my Christmas present).
Some friends who come over now have the excitement of being able to choose the music from their phones and laptops (we have sad friends) and driving each other crazy as they all fight over the playlist.
It is particularly useful when I can't quite manage the walk from the couch to the stereo, or when the phone rings and you can turn the stereo down using your mobile before you answer the call.
